Experienced College Admissions Guidance Rooted in Real College Experience
About Kiersten
Since 2005, I have worked in higher education across a wide range of colleges and universities, including large public universities, Big Ten institutions, public four-year universities in Florida, a private liberal arts college in the Northwest, premier private research universities in the Northeast, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - the world’s largest university specializing in aviation and aerospace.
During that time, I have read, evaluated, and decisioned more than 10,000 college applications. I have counseled thousands of students as they explored their interests, clarified their goals, selected academic pathways, and made important decisions about their futures. I understand how applications are reviewed, how institutional priorities can vary from one campus to another, and what helps students present themselves in a thoughtful, authentic, and compelling way.
I hold both a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Psychology, which shapes the way I work with students and families. The college admissions process is not just about grades, test scores, activities, and essays. It is also about confidence, motivation, identity, decision-making, and helping students communicate who they are in an authentic and meaningful way.
I am a Professional Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). Professional Membership is IECA’s highest membership level and is reserved for consultants who meet the organization’s most stringent standards in education, training, ethics, and experience. According to Dr. William Fitzsimmons, Dean of Admissions for Harvard University, “IECA is the Harvard of the counseling profession.”
I have also personally visited over 100 colleges and universities across the United States and around the world. During these visits and professional conversations with university and college administrators, I gain strategic insight into what colleges and universities are looking for in their incoming classes, helping me guide students as they build balanced, thoughtful, and strategic lists.
I believe the college admissions process should be more than a checklist and that it shouldn’t look the same from student to student. Through Hack Your College App, I help students and families approach the process with clarity, confidence, and strategy while keeping the student’s voice, goals, and well-being at the center.
